BlueCrest College SL participated at the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Africa Innovation Challenge 3rd Edition in Nairobi, Kenya sponsored by industry giants such as Intel, Huawei, ITU, and the GSMA . The competition received entries from Twenty Six (26) institutions within the African content. Our innovation focused on smart plant monitoring systems that revolutionized home gardening with advanced technology, enabling real-time tracking of plant health and environmental conditions. The system offers seamless integration with smartphones and provides insights to optimize plant care. It was our first time taking part in the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Africa Innovation Challenge and the only institution from Sierra Leone. After rigorous presentation online we emerged among the finalists with Veritas University in Nigeria and Zetech University in Kenya. The final which takes place on 9th February 2024 at Nairobi, Kenya we won the 2nd runner up prize which is USD5,000. This is a remarkable achievement for BlueCrest College SL and Sierra Leone. Mohamed Alpha a Hardware and Networking student represented BlueCrest College SL. This competition shows that BlueCrest College is training great minds to fill the tech gap in Sierra Leone and the African continent.
